Bio

Andrew Phelan ( pronounced ‘feelin’ ) was raised on Chicago’s underground house scene, influenced early by local jocks such as Derrick Carter, Sneak, Heather, and Justin Long. He began DJing in 1996, and soon found himself playing all around the Midwest.

Five years after first hitting the decks, Andrew made the move to San Francisco, where his smooth, layered mixing style quickly led to performances all over the Bay Area. Beyond gigs in his hometown San Francisco (1015 Folsom, Ruby Skye, The Endup), Andrew can be found travelling across the US, including stops in New York (Crobar), Miami (Bed), Chicago (Smartbar, Zentra), Seattle (Chapel), Portland (Ararat, 1201 Club), San Diego (Belo, On Broadway), and Pittsburgh (Level).

Outside of his live appearances, Andrew has been recording sets for Thump Radio since 2002. As a Thump DJ, he can be heard nationwide on XM Satellite Radio’s Channel 80: The Move, appears regularly on KBIG 104.3 in Los Angeles, and has mixed sets for Alice 97.3 in San Francisco.

In 2005 Andrew launched the Prismatic Label Group, which distributes releases on his own labels Prismatic Tracks, Dusted Roots, and Fizzin’, along with partner labels Newstylesound Recordings and Monsta. Artists working with the group include Bryan Jones, Jazzy Eyewear, Q-Burns Abstract Message, Santiago & Bushido, and Jake Childs.

The Prismatic Label Group is based out of Monsta Manor, a studio residing in SF’s famed Moulton Studios complex. The Manor is operated by friends and collaborators Origami, Andrew Phelan, Cubik, and Shazbot, who produce tech house and perform live PAs together as The Fingermonsters.

In the studio, Andrew devotes the majority of his time to work with good friend Origami. The duo have releases out and upcoming on Drop Music, Amenti, Eight-Tracks, So Sound, Greenhouse, Lingo, Prismatic, Dusted Roots, Olive, Turnaround-Sound, Monsta, and Fizzin’, including collaborations with Sen-Sei, Brown, and Audio Angel.

Locally, Andrew can be found promoting his own Prismatic events in San Francisco, anchored by a series of monthly, color themed undergrounds by the name of Tonal. Past guests at Tonal have included the likes of Diz, Jay Tripwire, Justin Long, Troydon, and Miles Maeda. Be on the lookout for much more from Andrew and Prismatic in the near future.
